Recruitment is a complex business, but the recruitment industry has its own set of peculiar problems too.

Here are 10 recruitment mistakes that recruitment companies often make:

1. More interested in selling than finding the right candidate for the job

This is probably the most common recruitment mistake. It's all about getting someone in to do the job, not necessarily getting them to perform it well.

2. Setting unrealistic expectations when engaging with candidates

Recruitment consultants need to understand their audience; they cannot expect everyone applying to be skilled enough for specialist roles or experienced enough for management roles, and then get frustrated when they receive no suitable applicants. If you're looking for an accountant, you won't find one without qualifications, years of experience and so on, so you need to be able to provide recruitment companies with the requirements you want.

3.Not realising that recruitment is a two-way process

Recruitment is as much about what's being applied for as it is about those applying themselves. If best recruitment consultant agencies don't have an idea of what they're looking for from their client, how can they possibly match candidates to roles?

4. Focusing only on quantity rather than quality

Sifting through piles and piles of endless CVs may be a time-consuming business, but recruitment consultant agencies will receive far better results by taking the time up front to find better recruitment agencies .

5.Using one method of advertising when seeking new recruitment

Not all recruitment agencies are designed for the same roles, so recruitment consultant agencies need to try out a number of recruitment companies in order to find the right fit.

6. Sending recruitment consultants generic CVs and covering letters

Recruitment consultants often receive hundreds of applications per job opening; if there is one thing recruitment consultants hate more than anything else, it's receiving endless CVs that do not meet their requirements. The time spent sifting through these is wasted, so recruitment companies need to take on the role of customer service representative when writing cover letters and personalising CVs.

7.  Not using social media effectively
Social media recruitment is on the rise , but some recruitment consultants still don't get involved with it. It's becoming increasingly necessary to use recruitment consultants on Twitter and recruitment consultant Facebook in order to reach new industries and talent pools.

8.Not using pre and post-employment screening

Saving recruitment companies money is the name of the game; not all recruitment agencies are committed to saving their clients money, though, which is why some recruitment consultants choose not only not to use recruitment company but also skip over things like police checks and drug tests (the latter of which can even give an idea about character). This may save recruitment consultants time initially, but it will inevitably lead to high employee turnover costs down the line if you're bringing in poor quality staff .

9.Forgetting that recruitment is a numbers game

Recruitment should be focused on quality recruitment agencies rather than quantity, but recruitment consultants need to be aware that the recruitment process will not end with one recruitment company. If they ignore other options out there, they may miss out on better recruitment agencies .

10.Clinging onto outdated recruitment strategies

Recruitment strategies are always evolving; it's important to keep up with them in order to find the best recruitment agency for your needs.
